Chart Trakan Waterfall, Phitsanulok


Location : Namtok Chart Trakan National Park, Phitsanulok Province
PHITSANULOK IS KNOWN AS A PROVINCE FULL OF MANY MARVELLOUS WATERFALLS, Each has unique beauty and characheristic, and Chart Trakan Waterfall is one of them. This fall is so grand and beautiful that it became the name of the national park, Namtok Chart Trakan National Park.

Declared as the 54 th national park of Thailand on November 2 nd 1987, Namtok Chart Trakan National Park covers an area of 543sq.km. within Chart Trakan and Nakhon Thai districts in Phitsanulok. The area is mostly high sandstone mountain with Montane rain forest and Deciduous dipterocarp forest. These hills originate many important tributaries of the region, for instance, Pak River and Kwae Noi River, as well as some small wild animals like wild fowl, wild pig, mouse-deer, squirrel, and wild bird

TOURIST ATTRACTIONS IN NAMTOK CHART TRAKAN NATIONAL PARK


Chart Trakan Waterfall, also called Pak Rong Waterfall, comprises altogether 7 levels, whose names derive from characters in thai literature "Sang Thong". The first level, which is the lowest, is named Maliwan. It is a towering cliff with a fissure in the middle, from which the water runs out down to the pond approximately 15m below. This pond, with its small sandy beach, is a nice spot for swimming, and the natural settings here are green and beautiful.

Walk uphill a bit further, and you will find Kannika, the second level which is a wider area but too slippery to get soaked in; and Karaket, the third level which is a small yet beautiful fall. The fourt level called Yisoonthet is a large cutrain of water flowing over a here too. However, most visitors often stop at this level, since the fifth level (Ked Muand), the sixth level (Reung Yod), and the seventh level (Rodjana) are only seventh level, you can trek back to the national park office by using another path without having to return the old way.

Chart Trakan Waterfall is an attraction you could visit within a day, but also possible for an overnight trip with the facilities of the national park. If your are already visited the waterfall, you may also continue to Pha Daeng, Khao Kradan, and Pha Lek, which are the historical sites nearby very conveniently.

TRAVELLING SEASON :


The best time is from June to November. In rainy season the water is fullest and most beautiful, and in early cold season the wild flowers bloom most gloriously.

NEARBY ATTRACTIONS :


Pha Daeng-Khao Kradan-Pha Lek : These are three historical sites where evidence of the pre-historical human existance are found. They are geometric patterns on gray rocks made by chiselling and filing. The three sites are approximately 3km away from the national park office.

FACULTIES :


The national park had one lodging house for 12 persons, and another 4 houses for 25 persons each. Moreover, there is also a tentground that could accommodate about 150 persons, as well ad restaurant, restrooms, parking lot, nature trails, and 3 campfire grounds.

TO GET THERE : 


 From Phitsanulok Town, take highway 12 (Phitsanulok-Lom Sak route) Until you reach the km marker 68, turn left into highway 2013 (to Nakhon Thai district) for 29km. From Nakhon Thai district, turn left again into highway 1143 (to Chart Trakan district) for 38km, and turn right into highway 1237 to the national park office for another 10km. The total distance from Phitsanulok Town is 152km.
