The Waterfalls in Thailand.

As Thailand has a number of important mountains rich with pieces of abundant forests in all parts, it is no surprising that there are innumerable tributaries and waterfalls all over the country, According to geographical division, we could briefly categorize these waterfalls in to 5 group as followings.

1. Waterfalls in the North

Waterfalls in the North tend to originate from those high ranges of mountains where the forests and the rivers are richest and most abundant. The water usually falls from very high and steep cliffs, and the waterfalls are the most gorgeous. Examples are Mae Ya Waterfall in Doi Inthanon National Park, and Mae Surin Waterfall in Namtok Mae Surin Nation Park.

2. Waterfalls in the West

Waterfalls in the West are water that falls from limestone mountains in the middle of lush forests. The deep green color is a unique characteristic most of them. Examples are Huai Mae Khamin Waterfall and Erawan Waterfall in Kanchanaburi province, and Tee Lor Su Waterfall in Tak province.

3. Waterfalls in the Central Part

The central part of Thailand is a vast flat area of the river basin, with some hillocks near the edge in the nortern direction. The waterfalls in the central part are therefore not very grand, but they are still beautiful with green surroundings and are particularly convenient to visit. Examples are Klong Lan Waterfall in Kampaeng Phet and Chart Trakan Waterfall in Phitsanulok.

4. Waterfalls in the Northeast

The northeastern part of Thailand is a truly large basin surrounded by mountains with towering cliff and steep cut. This is why waterfalls here are falling from the cliffs at least 10 meters high down to the canyons or valley below. However, one thing to remember about waterfalls in the Northeast is that, in dry season, you might not find a drop of water in their traces. Examples of waterfalls in this region are Hew Narok Waterfall in Prachinburi, Sang Chan Waterfall in Ubon Ratchathani, and Chet Si Waterfall in Nong Khai.

5. Waterfalls in the South

Due to the geographical condition as a peninsula, there are not many mountains, especially high ones, in the South. Waterfalls in this region, therefore, are fallling in wide, gentle steps. Ones could visit waterfalls in theis part all year round, since water is plenty in this area even in summer. An example of waterfall in the South is Krung Ching Waterfall in Nakhon Si Thammarat province.
